This is Lucy somewhere around her first birthday.
The girl had some crazy hair. I loved her hair – it was adorably out of control and so much fun to play with. Except, have you ever seen a 1 year old eat? Holy cow, her hair was always a mess. It was so hard to keep clean, to keep out of her face, to keep out of her mouth. And so, in a moment of complete insanity, I gave Lucy a haircut.
As I struggled to make it even, it kept getting shorter and shorter. I was a train wreck, spiraling out of control, taking her lovely head of hair with me. When I was finished, all I could do was cry.
What was I thinking?! Why, oh why would I ever want to cut those delicious curls?!
But, cut I did. She was still cute, but oh! I missed her hair.

Eventually, it grew into a bob that truly suited her.
Even still, it took a long time for me to be able to look at her sweet little head without feeling guilty of sabotage.
Ivy, I’m sure, will have hair just like her sister. And my scissors? They will stay as far away from her head as humanly possible.![]()

oh sweet curls... how I miss thee...
after 3 boys I reveled in my girls sweet curls until the day I left them alone to watch that wonderfully harmless movie "The Parent Trap" - harmless my EYE! I think my screams are still echoing somewhere in the ozone.
Haha - your Word Verifier says "tabit" - which is coincidentally similar to some of the words I said that day...
They are both such pretty, pretty girls! Her hair in the first picture is gorgeous!
Those pics of Lucy are absolutely darling! Love her big eyes! Love the hair but she was adorable w/ the cut too.
Ivy is a doll!
Ah, tragic indeed. And Ivy's curls are insanely cute. Love!
Cute pictures!!! Your struggle to even things out, which leads to it getting continually shorter reminds me of what happens when we have a cake at our house. I can't stand for the line to be unsymmetrical or anything except perfectly straight. So, I even it out. Then I HAVE to eat the little bits I trim. Then I realize it's not quite straight--so I adjust again. On and on. I've eaten most of a 9x 13 pan that way before. A very sad thing.
Yes, but just remember, it is better for you to take the scissors to their hair than for them to do it! Miracle had hair down to her waist. She was five years old and decided she wanted to give herself bangs. Needless to say, she cut off half her hair!! I was heart broken! But, I must admit, she is cute anyway!
My youngest had curls like that. I cut them off, too. I had to because everyone called my sweet little boy an adorable girl. I still miss his curls, though.
You have some stinkin' gorgeous girls.
I have done the same thing and I am a cosmetologist. Looking back on pictures now they are cute no matter what their hair looks like.
Oh yes, the mommy scissors.
My daughter wanted a bob after 6th grade. I gave her one--but it ended up about as short as a bob can go in my attempts to get it even.
Yeah. Since then, she's let me give her tiny trims, and that's it. I don't blame her!
